About the Seminar
Three-Day Hybrid National Seminar on Marching Towards Platinum Jubilee of Indian Constitution: Experiences and Expectations from August 7 to 9, 2023.
About the Theme
The Constitution of a democratic state is the fundamental and supreme law of the land. The life of a nation depends largely on the working of its constitution. There are many successful constitutions that have been in existence for many decades and even centuries successfully.
We can mention the constitutions of USA, Australia, Canada, France, UK and Switzerland, etc., in this context. Comparatively, the Constitution of India is younger, dynamic and progressive in many respects. As we approach its platinum jubilee, it is time to introspect, retrospect and audit our great constitution and its working.
The experience of its working and the expectations in a multidimensional and diverse society needs to be discussed, deliberated and flagged at this most appropriate juncture.
As we march towards the Platinum year in 2025, it is the need of the hour to recall and remind the vision and aspirations of the founding fathers and mothers to make power impersonal and evaluate the experiences and expectations which have been the motivation for our Constitution and Constitutionalism.
As per the chief architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar- “However good a Constitution may be, it is sure to turn out bad because those who are called to work it, happen to be a bad lot. However bad a Constitution may be, it may turn out to be good if those who are called to work it, happen to be a good lot.
The working of a Constitution does not depend wholly upon the nature of the Constitution….Who can say how the people of India and their purposes or will they prefer revolutionary methods of achieving them?
If they adopt the revolutionary methods, however good the Constitution may be, it requires no prophet to say that it will fail. It is, therefore, futile to pass any judgment upon the Constitution without reference to the part which the people and their parties are likely to play.”
Keeping the above caveat in view and the constitutional developments of the 73 years, the Faculty of Law, Osmania University, Hyderabad, is organizing this 3-day Hybrid National Seminar on the theme “Marching towards Platinum Jubilee of Indian Constitution: Experiences and Expectations” from August 7 to 9, 2023.
