The Editorial Board of the RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review (RFMLR) is pleased to announce that it is organising a Certificate Course on Antitrust Concerns in Digital Markets in collaboration with L&L Partners.

About RFMLR:

The RGNUL Financial and Mercantile Law Review (RFMLR) is a bi-annual, student-run, double-blind peer-reviewed law Journal published by RGNUL, Punjab. The Journal was first published in the year 2014 and gives an opportunity to the legal academia, legal professionals, and law students to contribute cutting-edge doctrinal and empirical research in the field of business and commercial laws.
The Journal is indexed on SCC Online and has been consistently ranked amongst the top most accessed law school Journals by SCC Online. The Editorial Board also collaborates with various legal experts and undertakes various academic initiatives to promote study and research in the field of business and commercial laws. As a part of this endeavour, the Editorial Board recently organised the RFMLR-IBBI Conference on Evolving Dynamics of the Insolvency Regime in India in January 2022 in collaboration with the Insolvency & Bankruptcy Board of India. The event was successful in initiating a novel discourse on emerging issues pertaining to the insolvency regime in India through a blog series and panel discussion.
Previously, the Editorial Board has also organised the RGNUL-SAM Conclave on Arbitration in Practice, 2021 in collaboration with Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (SAM & Co) in July 2021, and a Colloquium on GST Laws in association with Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys in February 2020, both of which witnessed participation from industry professionals as well as students from across the country.

Mr. Kunal Mehra

Mr. Mehra is a Partner in the Regulatory Affairs Practice of the New Delhi Office of L&L Partners. He is a seasoned competition and M&A lawyer with almost 17 years of work experience. Mr. Mehra actively advises on competition related matters including merger control filings with the CCI, abuse of dominance cases, cartels and also undertakes competition compliance programmes for leading corporates. His recent accolades include winning the BW Legal World 40 Under 40 Award 2021, listing in the Forbes India Legal Powerlist 2020 of India’s Top 100 Lawyers, inclusion in the Asian Legal Business India Rising Stars 2021 and 40 Under 40 Rising Stars Award 2020 organized by Legal Era.

Mr. Danish Khan

Mr. Khan is a Managing Associate in the Competition Law Practice of the New Delhi Office of L&L Partners. With an experience of almost 9 years, he has regularly appeared before the CCI, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal and the Supreme Court of India on competition law issues. He is well versed with both antitrust litigation and merger control advisory. Mr. Khan also regularly advises clients on regulatory affairs. Further, he has also written excessively on competition law matters for widely acclaimed national and international Journals.

Theme

The Course would explore the theme of Antitrust Concerns in Digital Markets. Recently, several jurisdictions, including the USA, European Commission and India have come down on Big Tech Companies and started to scrutinize their activities in the Digital markets. For instance, in the recent past, there have been numerous decisions against market players such as Apple in the digital payments market space, and against Google and Facebook, with respect to search advertising and data collection. Thus, it has become pertinent to discuss the application of competition law with reference to the Big Tech companies and digital markets in general. In furtherance, the Course would broadly cover topics such as inter alia abuse of dominant position by big tech companies, approach of the CCI in comparison to other antitrust regulators across the world, and analysing the efficiency justifications in the digital market.

Important Details:

The course would take place in-person on the University campus. Please note that the Course is only open for current RGNUL students. Interested students are required to submit their details, along with their CV (not exceeding 2 pages) and a Statement of Purpose (not exceeding 500 words) presenting demonstrable experience in Competition Law, through this form by April 1, 2022. Since the objective of the Course is to maximize the interaction and the discussion with the Resource Persons, the Editorial Board shall undertake a detailed screening process of all applications for a limited number of seats, and shall inform the students about their selection for the Course. Further, the reading material shall be shared with the selected students shortly.

Important Dates and Timeline

The Certificate Course will be held on 9th and 10th April, 2022 (Saturday and Sunday).
