About
Dr. Ambedkar Chair in Anthropology, Department of Anthropology, University of Calcutta, with financial assistance from the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, is observing the Mahaparnirvan of Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar through organising an essay competition on the topic of “Relevance of Ambedkar in Anthropology”. Dr. Bhimrao Ramji (Babasaheb) Ambedkar was the father of our Indian constitution, an indomitable spirit of social justice, one of the most illustrious sons of India, a traditional reformer who sought to reform the hegemonic traditions of the caste system in India. Babasaheb charted a sui-generis course amidst multifaceted achievements wherein he gave his entire life to uplift depressed classes through social engineering. This essay competition is a unique way to pay homage to the towering intellectual figure that is Babasaheb. This essay competition will also encourage the writing spirit among the students of colleges and universities in West Bengal for figuring out novel ways towards alleviating the human rights situation in contemporary India.
