About NUALS NTAC

The NUALS National Trial Advocacy Competition (NTAC) is a premier platform for law students to enhance their advocacy skills in a competitive, practical environment, bridging the gap between theory and courtroom practice. Since establishing the National Trial Advocacy Competition in 2006, NUALS has consistently upheld premier standards in the field. The 2025 edition focuses on criminal trials, evaluating students on their grasp of legal principles and their application to factual scenarios. This year’s competition integrates the latest criminal laws, such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, preparing participants for a dynamic legal landscape.

Eligibility

The Competition is open to all law colleges, law schools, universities, and departments of law in India, recognized by the Bar Council of India. Eligibility is restricted to LL.B. students enrolled in either the three-year or five-year law programs.

Location

The Qualifier Rounds of the NUALS National Trial Advocacy Competition, 2025 is scheduled to take place virtually through Google Meet on 11th January 2025. The Advanced Rounds will be conducted in person at the NUALS, Kochi campus from 31st January to 2nd February 2025.

Prizes

Certificate of Participation will be awarded to all the participants. Additionally, the top teams and performers will get the following prizes:    

Best Trial Advocacy Team AwardA Trophy and cash prize of Rs 50,000/-
Second Best Trial Advocacy Team AwardA Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-
Best Memorial AwardA Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 15,000/-
Second Best Memorial AwardA Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 7,500/-
Best Trial Advocate AwardA Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-
Second Best Trial Advocate AwardA Trophy and cash prize of Rs. 5,000/-

Registration

Participation in the NUALS National Trial Advocacy Competition, 2025 is restricted to 64 teams only. The slots shall be reserved based on a ‘first come’ basis for the first 64 teams. Only two teams per College/Institution/University shall be permitted to take part in the Competition.

Teams wishing to participate in the competition must complete the registration process by 15th December 2024, by submitting the duly filled Proforma available on the website of the Centre for Law and Development. The registration link is provided below –

Fee Structure

A two-tiered registration fee structure applies to the Competition. All participating teams are required to pay a base registration fee of Rs. 2000/- (Rupees Two Thousand Only) on or before 15th December, 2024. Additionally, the sixteen (16) teams qualifying for the Advanced Rounds will be required to pay an additional fee of Rs. 3000/- (Rupees Three Thousand Only) by 15th January, 2025.

Please note that registration fees, once paid, will not be refunded
