About Madhyasthta – The ADR Cell

Madhyasthta – The ADR Cell, is a student initiative by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University’s New Law College, Pune. The Cell was instituted on 1st August, 2019 and since then has been working efficiently in training and developing the skill sets of the students in the field of ADR i.e. Arbitration, Mediation, Conciliation and Negotiation by conducting various Seminars, Webinars, Panel Discussions and Intra-College competitions and at the same time spreading awareness about ADR practices within student community and giving information regarding various National and International competition. The cell focuses on organizing more such events in future. The cell has even launched a special edition of Journal on Alternative Dispute Resolution in order to promote the research in the field of ADR.

Recently the Cell expanded its horizon to the cyberspace by launching a “Global Initiative for Alternative Dispute Resolution Awareness i.e. GIADRA an Oracle for ADR”, where cell tried to bring the knowledge and expertise of the ADR Professionals across the globe easily accessible to all the students and ADR enthusiasts in the form of blogs and videos. The ADR cell focuses in developing the skills of students and helping them to pursue their career in the field of ADR. The cell has also been sending students to different colleges for attending various ADR based seminars, conferences, panel discussions and knowledge enhancing events organized all across the country. The cell has a strong force team of 21 able and committed student members from all the batches of New Law College. The Cell emphasizes the importance of preventive law and the need to be an effective counsellor in law office. It harnesses the students’ ability to deal with client’s non- legal goals as well as the legal concerns. It emphasizes on the importance of arbitration, negotiation and mediation in resolving disputes and structuring transactions. It organizes regular activities for student teachers and the community. The cell believes in effectiveness of the ADR practices over litigation and intends to promote the same in the student community.

About GIADRA

GIADRA (Global Initiative for Alternative Dispute Resolution Awareness) is an initiative of ‘MADHYASTHTA -The ADR Cell’ of New Law College, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed to be University, Pune. The Cell aims to expand its horizon through this global initiative. GIADRA is aimed at synergising the knowledge of ADR Professionals across the globe and making it easily accessible to students in the form of blogs and videos.

Alternative Dispute Resolution is one of the most effectual mechanisms of dispute resolution internationally. There is an imminent need of promotion of ADR amongst students of law especially with the steadily growing burden on litigation. This initiative aims to imbibe students with the basics and technicalities of the working of ADR mechanisms that is, arbitration, mediation, negotiation and conciliation from industry professionals themselves. It also aims to educate and promote the diverse techniques of ADR which shall open a horde of opportunities to students of law for exploring career options and help them in providing an ever-evolving dispute resolution that is in sync with the contemporary world.

GIADRA is a unique integrated platform providing consolidated material in the form of blogs and videos. It can be considered one of a kind platform in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). It is an easily accessible platform with a diverse presence through various social media platforms as well. GIADRA is an extension of ‘Madhyasthta’ The ADR Cell of New Law College, Pune. Born out of its primary objective of training and developing the skill set of students in the field of ADR, that is negotiation, mediation, arbitration and conciliation.

About the Course

Mediator Academy, in collaboration with Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) New Law College, Pune, Maharashtra, India is offering a certificate course titled ‘Introduction to Mediation: Theory, Practice and Skills. The course is aimed at law students and includes 35+ hours of interactive course content with core modules in: Conflict and Dispute Resolution, Communication Skills, Mediation Theory, Principles and Process, Mediation Practice and Skills. Students that successful complete the assessment will then be eligible to join the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators ay Associate level. The course also contains the Bar Council of India’s approved core mediation subject specializations.

This tie up would lead to new opportunities for all the students of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to Be University). Moreover, the course shall strengthen the job opportunities for students in several field of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
