Legal Officer Vacancies at NICL
NICL is inviting applications for 266 Officers in Scale I cadre. Specifically, for the Legal discipline, there are 20 tentative vacancies. These vacancies are provisional, and the company reserves the right to vary them based on actual requirements.

Eligibility Criteria for NICL Legal Officer Post
To be eligible for the Legal Administrative Officer position, candidates must meet specific criteria as of May 1, 2025.
1. Nationality: A candidate must be either a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from specified East African countries or certain Asian countries with the intention of permanently settling in India. Candidates from categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
2. Age Limit (as on May 1, 2025):
- Minimum Age: 21 years.
- Maximum Age: 30 years.
- This means candidates must have been born not earlier than May 2, 1995, and not later than May 1, 2004 (both dates inclusive).
Age Relaxation in Upper Age Limit:
- Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST): 5 years.
- Other Backward Classes (OBC – Non-creamy layer): 3 years.
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): 10 years.
- Ex-Serviceman/Commissioned Officers (ECOs)/Short Service Commissioned Officers (SSCOs): 5 years.
- Defence service personnel disabled in operation: 3 years.
- Existing confirmed employees of Public Sector General Insurance Companies: 8 years.
- Age relaxation can be cumulative, subject to a maximum age not exceeding 45 years.
3. Educational Qualification (as on May 1, 2025): For the Legal discipline, candidates must possess a Graduate / Post Graduate in Law from a recognized University with at least 60% marks in either the degree examination. A relaxation is provided for SC/ST candidates, who require at least 55% marks. The qualification must be from a recognized Indian University approved by UGC or an Indian Institute approved by AICTE. Candidates must possess a valid Mark-sheet/Degree Certificate of the necessary qualification as of May 1, 2025. If CGPA/OGPA is awarded, candidates must provide a certificate stating the university’s conversion norms to percentage.
NICL Legal Officer Salary & Benefits
Selected candidates appointed as Administrative Officers (Scale I) will receive attractive emoluments and benefits:
- Starting Basic Pay: Rs. 50,925/- in the scale of Rs. 50925-2500(14)-85925-2710(4)-96765.
- Total Emoluments: Approximately Rs. 90,000/- per month in Metropolitan Centres.
- Other Benefits: Pension under New Pension Scheme (governed by PFRDA), Gratuity, Leave Travel Subsidy (LTS), Medical Benefits, Group Personal Accident Insurance, and Company’s/leased accommodation as per rules.
Selection Process for Legal Administrative Officers
The selection process for Administrative Officers (Legal) consists of two phases of online examination followed by an interview.
1. Phase – I: Preliminary Examination (Online)
- This test is objective (Multiple Choice Questions) for 100 marks and 60 minutes duration.
- It consists of three sections, each with separate timings:
- English Language: 30 Questions, 30 Marks, 20 minutes (English medium).
- Reasoning Ability: 35 Questions, 35 Marks, 20 minutes (English/Hindi medium).
- Quantitative Aptitude: 35 Questions, 35 Marks, 20 minutes (English/Hindi medium).
- Candidates must qualify in each section by securing passing marks decided by the Company.
- Approximately 15 times the number of vacancies (subject to availability) will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.
2. Phase – II: Main Examination (Online)
- The Main Examination comprises Objective Tests for 250 marks and a Descriptive Test for 30 marks.
- Both tests are online, and the Descriptive Test requires typing on a computer.
- Objective Test (3 Hours Duration): For Specialists (including Legal), this test has six sections for a total of 250 Marks.
- Test of Reasoning: 40 Questions, 40 Marks, 35 minutes (English/Hindi).
- Test of English Language: 40 Questions, 40 Marks, 30 minutes (English).
- Test of General Awareness: 40 Questions, 40 Marks, 20 minutes (English/Hindi).
- Test of Computer Knowledge: 40 Questions, 40 Marks, 25 minutes (English/Hindi).
- Test of Quantitative Aptitude: 40 Questions, 40 Marks, 35 minutes (English/Hindi).
- Technical & Professional Knowledge (Legal): 50 Questions, 50 Marks, 35 minutes (English/Hindi).
- Descriptive Test (30 Minutes Duration): This test is for 30 marks and evaluates English Language skills (Essay – 10 Marks, Précis – 10 Marks, & Comprehension – 10 Marks). It will be conducted immediately after the Objective Test. The Descriptive Test is qualifying in nature, meaning its marks are not counted for shortlisting for the interview or final selection, but candidates must achieve a separate cut-off mark in it.
- Objective Test (3 Hours Duration): For Specialists (including Legal), this test has six sections for a total of 250 Marks.
- Penalty for Wrong Answers: For objective tests in both phases, one-fourth (1/4th) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each wrong answer. No penalty for unanswered questions.
3. Interview:
- Candidates shortlisted from the online Phase II (Main Examination) will be called for an Interview. The interview centers, venue, time, and date will be communicated through the call letter.
- Candidates must produce original and self-attested photocopies of relevant documents, including proof of date of birth, photo identity, mark-sheets, caste/disability certificates (if applicable), and a “No Objection Certificate” from their employer if serving in government/quasi-government offices/PSUs.
Final Selection: The final merit list is prepared based on the consolidated scores obtained from the online Main Examination (Objective test) and the Interview. The weightage (ratio) of the online Main Examination to the Interview is 80:20 respectively. Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks in the interview, which will be decided by the Company. In case of a tie in consolidated scores, marks secured in the interview will be used as a tie-breaker, followed by the candidate’s date of birth (senior in age placed higher). Final appointment is subject to medical fitness and adherence to the Company’s service and conduct rules.
