Roles on Mumbai Port Authority
The Mumbai Port Authority is inviting applications from eligible Indian Nationals for the following legal positions:
- Chief Manager (Legal)
- Senior Manager (Legal)
- Manager (Legal)
These engagements are strictly on a contractual basis for an initial period of 3 years, which may be extended by another 2 years at the discretion of the Mumbai Port Authority. It is important to note that these are contractual assignments and MbPA will not provide for regularization or permanency.
Key Responsibilities for Legal Professionals at MbPA
Each legal position carries distinct responsibilities, crucial for the efficient functioning of the Port Authority:
- Chief Manager (Legal):
- Responsible for managing court cases and advising the management to make appropriate decisions.
- Will lead a team, setting goals and objectives, managing performance, and developing staff.
- Will provide advice and take action on legal risk, policy development, litigation management, regulatory competence, and contract negotiation.
- Senior Manager (Legal):
- Responsible for managing a team, establishing goals and objectives, managing performance, and developing staff.
- Will advise and act on the review of tender documents, providing legal advice.
- Required to liaise with relevant departments to ensure appropriate actions are taken when legal risks are identified.
- Will provide legal protection and risk management advice to management, particularly concerning contract management.
- Also responsible for policy development, litigation management, regulatory compliance, and contract negotiation.
- Manager (Legal):
- Will liaise with relevant departments to ensure appropriate courses of action are taken for identified legal risks.
- Continuously monitors compliance with statutory obligations and advises management accordingly.
- Reviews the progress of outstanding litigation and liaises with external lawyers.
Eligibility Criteria
The crucial date for determining eligibility criteria, including educational qualification, experience, and age, is 1.8.2025.
Educational Qualifications Required for Law Vacancies
For all legal positions, candidates must possess a Degree in Law from a recognized National/International University. A Master’s degree in Corporate/Maritime Law from a recognized National/International University is desirable for these roles. Qualifications must be from Indian Universities approved by UGC or recognized Indian/International Institutes.
Work Experience
The required work experience varies by management level:
- Chief Manager (Legal): 15 years work experience in the Legal wing of Corporates. A proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting is essential. Experience in the Port/Shipping Sector and practicing experience as an Advocate are desirable.
- Senior Manager (Legal): 10 years work experience in the Legal wing of Corporates. A proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting is essential. Experience in the Port/Shipping Sector and practicing experience as an Advocate are desirable.
- Manager (Legal): 5 years work experience in the Legal wing of Corporates. Experience in the Port/Shipping Sector and practicing experience as an Advocate are desirable.
Only experience acquired after obtaining the essential qualifications will be considered.
Age Limits for Legal Vacancies
The upper age limit for applicants as of 1.8.2025 is:
- Chief Manager (Legal): 55 years.
- Senior Manager (Legal): 45 years.
- Manager (Legal): 40 years.
Remuneration
The Mumbai Port Authority offers attractive consolidated remuneration packages for these contractual positions:
- Chief Manager (Legal): Rs. 2,00,000/- per month.
- Senior Manager (Legal): Rs. 1,60,000/- per month.
- Manager (Legal): Rs. 1,20,000/- per month.
