About PCGT
Public Concern for Governance Trust (PCGT) is a registered trust founded in 2002 by Mr. Julio Ribeiro, Dr. R.K. Anand and late Mr. B.G. Deshmukh to increase public participation and activism towards creating a more transparent and efficient governance system.
In order to sensitize and mentor the youth in ethical values with an emphasis on good governance, PCGT started the Youth For Governance (YFG) programme in the year 2012 and the leadership projects under YFG in the year 2019. PCGT also works on RTI awareness and training as well as imparting values in school students through the Kuch Aurr.
About Our Guest Speaker: Shailesh Gandhi
Shailesh Gandhi is a first-generation entrepreneur and a Distinguished Alumnus awardee of IIT Bombay. He sold his company to become a RTI activist. Shailesh was part of the National RTI movement which was involved in drafting the National Act. He was convener of the National Campaign for People’s Right To Information. He has used RTI and also trained many citizens and government officials in over 1000 workshops to use it. The only RTI activist to have been chosen as a Central Information Commissioner, he disposed a record of over20000 cases in 3 years and 9 months, and ensured that most cases were decided in less than 90 days. He gave many landmark decisions on RTI, apart from organizing the first digital paper-less office in the Commission. He is passionately pursuing the cause of evolving ways for a time bound justice delivery system, and improving governance systems. Amongst many awards he has been awarded the
Nani Palkhiwala Civil Liberties award, and the MR Pai award. He has published a book: RTI Act- authentic interpretation of the Statute and a paper critiquing Supreme Court judgments on RTI.
About the event
The workshop is honoured to host Mr. Shailesh Gandhi, a prominent RTI activist and former central information commissioner, as guest speaker. This event provides students with invaluable insights into the RTI’s intricacies, applications, and impact. Designed to enhance drafting skills, it prepares students for practical application, empowering them to demand transparency from public authorities and promote accountability and good governance. By exercising the right to information, participants contribute to a transparent society and hold institutions accountable for their actions.
