About UCLouvain Saint-Louis Brussels

UCLouvain Saint-Louis Brussels, ranked 180th globally by QS, is an esteemed autonomous campus specializing in social and human sciences, located in Brussels, Belgium. Founded in 1857, it was initially a public university under the French Community of Belgium, before merging with the University of Louvain in 2017, and officially consolidating in 2023 under the unified name UCLouvain. The institution’s roots trace back to the École de Commerce et d’Industrie established in 1838, later evolving into the Institut Saint-Louis. Over time, it became an independent university, offering a rich academic legacy in philosophy, law, economics, and the arts. It pioneered Belgium’s first independent business school, HEC Saint-Louis, and has made significant contributions to European and interdisciplinary studies.

UCLouvain Saint-Louis Brussels now comprises five faculties: Philosophy, Arts and Human Sciences, Law, Economics and Social Sciences (ESPO), the Marie Haps Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, and the Institute for European Studies. It offers 25 bachelor programs, two master’s degrees, and several postgraduate qualifications, with a distinctive focus on bilingual, trilingual, and English-taught degrees in business engineering. The university also boasts a robust research framework with institutes and centers dedicated to interdisciplinary studies, Brussels-centric research, and European studies. Notably, the Brussels Studies Institute, co-founded with two other universities, is a prominent example of its collaborative research approach. With its rich history, pioneering academic programs, and global research impact, UCLouvain Saint-Louis Brussels stands as a leading institution at the intersection of tradition, innovation, and international collaboration.
