Several Indian universities include “Climate Change” or “Climate Science” or “Climate Policy” as stand-alone courses, research thematics, or programmatic focus areas. However, there has been very limited serious discussion on the contexts, processes, and pathways involved in effectively integrating climate change concerns into diverse higher education programmes and institutions in India. The interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary challenges and opportunities presented by climate change education have also not received sufficient attention in the Indian context. This workshop is targeted at educators and education leaders from India, from across various disciplines and professional education contexts, who are involved in (or considering) the integration of climate change concerns into specific educational programmes, courses, research projects, and other activities. This workshop builds on the insights gained from the inaugural workshop “Integrating Climate Change into Higher Education” organised in October 2020 by faculty at Azim Premji University.
The workshop will include the elaboration of the broader context of climate change education in India and the global South, interactive elements to facilitate sharing of challenges and best practices in specific contexts, and hands-on activities on integrating climate change considerations into specific curricular and institutional contexts.
The workshop is designed and facilitated by faculty members and researchers at Azim Premji University. There is no charge or fee for participation in the workshop. Zoom login details and further information will be shared with all registered participants closer to the event.
