4th NLIU-Link Legal National Client Counselling Competition | Register by 27th September 2021

About the NLIU

The National Law Institute University is a premier university in the field of legal education, established in 1997. NLIU is recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Bar Council of India. NLIU is known for its impeccable administration of legal competitions across various law schools.

About the Competition

It has been more than a year that the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the day-to-day affairs across the globe, which to date continues to be a significant threat to the lives of people. Because of this, the once temporary virtual setup has now become the norm. Schools, colleges, interactive sessions, and almost all the events continue to be contained within the bounds of digital media. Thankfully, many innovative applications have provided numerous opportunities ensuring that a valuable educational interchange can take place among law students while sitting safely in their homes.

Adapting to the dynamics of this new reality, NLIU successfully conducted its first-ever virtual edition of NLIU-Link Legal National Client Counselling in 2020. Continuing the tradition, the NLIU Moot Court Association takes immense pleasure and pride in announcing the 4th edition of the NLIU-Link Legal National Client Counselling Competition, 2021 proposed to be held virtually from 12th to 14th November 2021.

The fundamental aim of this competition is to develop the counselling functions of a lawyer in a holistic manner, by providing a unique opportunity to have a deep insight into the behavioral aspects of counselling. Counselling is all about giving such information which a client would like to know regarding his legal problem/case. In order to satiate the client, a lawyer is expected to have excellent listening and advisory skills required to conduct a successful client interview. And this competition provides an appropriate platform to inculcate these skills from an accurate Client- Counsel stimulation.

Purpose of the Competition

Interviewing and advising comprise a vital part of a lawyer’s work. It is often assumed that lawyers have the listening and questioning skills required to conduct an effective interview with a client. Unfortunately, however, this is not true of every lawyer. Thus, through this Competition, it is intended to inculcate among students of law, a greater knowledge of and a spirit of enquiry into the preventive law and counselling functions of law practice. The Competition also encourages students of law to develop interviewing, planning, and analytical skills necessary to build and maintain a relationship between a lawyer and
his/her client.
