About CNLU

Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) was established by the Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006 under the patronage of the Government of Bihar. The University is accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC and is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and registered with the Bar Council of India (BCI).
The teaching pedagogy prioritizes in classroom lectures, presentations as well as in augmenting the all-around development of students. The students of this institution have proved their prowess by bringing several laurels to its pride in competitions ranging from Moot Courts to debates and sports events. Eleven batches of CNLU have passed and have been placed in leading law firms, corporate houses, banks and several have been chosen by foreign universities for pursuing masters.

The Centre for Advanced Research on Corporate and Insolvency Laws (CARCIL) is a centre of excellence to facilitate the highest standards of research in Corporate Law, Governance and Insolvency in India. The Centre works through Research Projects and Case Study. The Centre offers Faculty Development Program, Training and Diploma Program for Academicians, Students and Professionals. The Centre is also working towards Publication of its own Journal.

About MCC

Moot Court Competitions are highlight of every law curriculum. The exercise of mooting teaches students skills that are of utmost importance for solving complex legal problems.
The Moot Court Committee of Chanakya National Law University is a student led body that works hand in hand with the administration for organizing various activities. Annually, the Committee organises three competition – Freshers Moot for novice students, General Intra for the allotment of National Moots and Special Intra for the allotment of International Moots.
In the past, committee was involved in the organization of various National and International Moot Court Competitions.

About Competition Commission of India

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is a regulatory body established on 14 October, 2003, by the Government of India to implement the Competition Act, 2002, which, as amended by the Competition (Amendment) Act, 2007, follows the philosophy of modern competition laws. It is a statutory body within the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and is responsible for enforcing the Competition Act, 2002 in order to promote competition and prevent activities that have an appreciable adverse effect on competition in India. It is the duty of the Commission to eliminate practices having an adverse effect on competition, promote and sustain competition, protect the interests of consumers and ensure freedom of trade in the markets of India.
The Commission is also required to give opinion on competition issues on a reference received from a statutory authority established under any law and to undertake competition advocacy, create public awareness and impart training on competition issues. The vision of the Commission is to promote and sustain an enabling competition culture through engagement and enforcement that would inspire businesses to be fair, competitive and innovative; enhance consumer welfare, and support economic growth.

About Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorney

Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan was started in 1985 in a single room set up by the two founders with no prior experience working in a law firm. About the Moot

The objective of this moot is to stir up research on issues in competition law. Business sector in India is one of the highest contributors to the national economy. Hence, the understanding of the jurisprudence and legal implications of business becomes essential. Young lawyers excelling in competition law will lead to the opening up of better business prospects and benefitting those in the industry.
This Moot Court Competition is being organized in collaboration with Competition Commission of India. The Moot Court is also being organized in collaboration of Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan. With the presence of these organisations, MCC CNLU ensures that the students are provided with as realistic an impression of Competition Law as possible. The Moot Court Competition shall take place from 11th March, 2022to 13th March, 2022.

Dates

The Competition shall be organised from March 11, 2022 to March 13, 2022, virtually i.e. online mode.

Eligibility

All students enrolled in a three (3) year LL.B. programme or a five (5) year integrated law programme shall be eligible to participate in the Competition. However, only one team per institution shall be eligible to participate. In the event of multiple registrations from the same College/University/Law School, the Team which submits a letter by the Head / Dean of the Institution / Moot Court Committee, authorizing them to participate on behalf of the College or Law School shall be eligible to register. Students enrolled in post-graduate or diploma courses are not eligible to participate.

Language

All oral and written submissions are required to be made in English, which shall be the official language of the Competition.

Structure of the Competition

The competition will be held in rounds viz., Preliminary Round-1, Preliminary Round-2, Quarterfinal, Semifinal, Final Round. Each round consists of written submission (Memorial) and oral pleadings (Oral Round). For the purpose of this competition, each team shall submit memorials on the behalf of Petitioner as well as Respondent.

Mode and Date of Registration:

In this edition of the competition, the registration will be restricted to only 32 Teams on a first-come-first serve basis. Interested teams are required to register for the Competition by filling out a registration form. The link to the form is provided below:

While filling out the Provisional Registration Form, the teams have to choose a primary contact person. All communications concerning the Competition will be sent by e-mail to the nominated contact person. The nominated contact person shall be responsible to convey all the information to the team.

The fee for the competition shall be paid to the bank account/UPI/QR Code mentioned above. After payment of the fee, the candidate/team must ensure that the screenshot is taken. The screenshot shall be used for verification purposes. All the participating institutions have to confirm participation by attaching the screenshot of the payment receipt in the google form on or before February 6, 2022 by 11:59 PM.

The teams after registration will receive a confirmation mail from the Organising Committee for confirmation of the slot for the competition. In the event this email is not received by the registered team, it may contemporaneously send an email with its registration details to [email protected].

The teams shall be provided a unique team code which shall be used in the preparation of the memorial as stated in the rule 3.3.1. Teams shall only be addressed by this code in the oral rounds.

Awards

  • BEST TEAM

The Team winning the final round of the Competition shall be given:

A cash prize of INR 40,000/- (Indian Rupees Forty Thousand Only).
An internship opportunity with Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys.
Three (3) one-year complimentary (Academic) subscription to SCC Online Web Edition.
Three (3) one-year complimentary access code to EBC Learning.

  • RUNNERS UP

The runners up team in the final round of the Competition shall be a cash prize of INR 30,000/- (Indian Rupees Thirty Thousand Only).

  • BEST SPEAKER

The speaker having the highest score in the preliminary rounds shall be given a cash prize of INR 10,000/- (Indian Rupees Ten Thousand Only) and an internship opportunity with
Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys.

  • BEST RESEARCHER

The participant having the highest researcher’s score shall be given a cash prize of INR 10,000/- (Indian Rupees Ten Thousand Only) and an internship opportunity with Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys.

  • BEST MEMORIAL

The team having the highest average written submission score from both sides shall be given a cash prize of INR 10,000/- (Indian Rupees Ten Thousand Only).

Certificates of participation shall be given to all the participating teams.
