HPCL is inviting applications for the position of Law Officer as part of its 2025-26 recruitment drive.

- Number of Vacancies: 3
- Pay Scale: Rs 50000-160000
- Approximate Annual Cost to Company (CTC): Rs 17.72 Lakh. This CTC is calculated at the minimum base level of the pay grade and includes components like Base Pay, Retirement Benefits, Dearness Allowance, HRA, and Cafeteria Allowance. It also factors in Performance Related Pay (calculated at maximum), which is contingent on multiple factors and Corporation policy. Please note that CTC may vary for non-metro locations.

Eligibility for HPCL Law Officer Requirements
To be considered for the Law Officer position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Essential Qualifications:
- A 3-year full-time course in law after graduation OR a 5-year course in law after 12th Standard.
- All qualifications must be full-time regular courses from AICTE approved or UGC recognized universities/deemed universities.
- If a CGPA/OGPA or letter grade is awarded, an equivalent percentage of marks must be indicated as per university norms, with a certificate to this effect required at the time of interview.
- Minimum Marks in Qualifying Degree:
- 65% marks for UR/OBCNC/EWS candidates.
- 55% marks for SC/ST/PwBD candidates.
- Minimum Experience:1 year of relevant experience.
- Work experience is counted post completion of the qualifying degree.
- For practicing Advocates or those working in a law firm, experience is counted after enrolment in the Bar Council of India.
- Preferable Experience: Experience should preferably relate to providing advice on contract interpretation, devising legal strategy, handling litigation, arbitration and conciliation matters, drafting agreements/contracts, drafting pleadings for filing before Court/Arbitrator/Conciliator, and briefing Counsel.
- Key Knowledge Areas: Substantial knowledge of Constitution, procedural laws, Petroleum Laws, Evidence Act, Indian Contract Act, Sale of Goods Act, Specific Relief Act, Transfer of Property Act, Intellectual Property Laws, Arbitration & Conciliation Act, Environmental laws, and Economic & Commercial Laws (like IBC, Competition Act, Consumer Protection Act) is preferred.
- Note: Teaching and research experience in an academic institute will not be considered as relevant work experience.
- Maximum Age: The maximum permissible age varies with experience.
- For 1 year of relevant experience: 26 years
- For 2 years of relevant experience: 27 years
- For 3 or more years of relevant experience: 28 years
- A maximum of 2 years of age relaxation will be given if an applicant’s relevant work experience (completed years) is more than the minimum prescribed.
- General age relaxations apply for reserved categories: 5 years for SC & ST, 3 years for OBCNC, 10 years for PwBD (UR), 13 years for PwBD (OBCNC), and 15 years for PwBD (SC/ST) candidates. The maximum upper age for applicants shall not exceed 56 years including all possible age relaxations.
- Language and Computer Skills: Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Hindi and English languages. Proficiency in reading and writing in any one or more Scheduled languages (as per the Constitution) in addition to English and Hindi is preferred. Good knowledge of MS-Word and PowerPoint is also required.

Law Officer Job Profile at HPCL: Key Responsibilities
The broad job responsibilities for a Law Officer at HPCL are indicative and include:
- Preparation and Vetting of Legal Documents: Preparing and reviewing legal deeds and documents.
- Legal Advisory: Assisting the Head Legal by providing advice and opinions on various issues raised by different departments and zones.
- Inter-Departmental Coordination: Coordinating with all departments and locations on all legal issues.
- Litigation Management: Coordinating for details on legal issues, discussing/advising counsel/advocates, and attending court hearings.

HPCL Law Officer Selection Process
The selection process for the Law Officer position may involve multiple stages:
- Selection Tools: The process may include a Computer Based Test (CBT), Group Task, Personal Interview, and specifically for Law Officers, a Moot Court.
- Computer Based Test (CBT): Where applicable, the CBT will consist of objective questions and may also include subjective questions for Law Officers. It will have two parts:
- General Aptitude: Covering English Language, Quantitative Aptitude Test, and Intellectual Potential Test (Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation).
- Technical/Professional Knowledge: Comprising questions related to the qualifying degree/educational background required for the position.
- Qualifying Stages: Candidates must secure minimum qualifying marks in each applicable selection stage, including the Computer Based Test, Group Task, and Personal Interview, to be considered for further selection.
- Merit List: A category and discipline-wise merit list will be prepared for candidates who qualify in all applicable stages, based on performance in the CBT/Written Test, Group Task, Moot Court, Personal and/or Technical Interviews, and relevant Work Experience.
- Medical Fitness: Appointment to the post is subject to the candidate being medically fit as per the standards prescribed by HPCL. Shortlisted candidates will undergo a Pre-Employment Medical Examination (PEME) at HPCL-nominated/empanelled hospitals, and the decision of HPCL’s Chief Medical Advisor on medical fitness will be final.
