Victory for Consumers: MakeMyTrip Ordered to Refund and Compensate

The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered Make My Trip to refund the full amount paid for a travel package and compensate the complainants for the cancellation of their trip due to a rejected VISA application.

The complainant and his wife had booked a seven-day, eight-night travel package to Athens, Greece through MakeMyTrip India Pvt. Ltd. However, their journey was abruptly halted when their VISA application was rejected on the grounds of unreliable information .

MakeMyTrip India Pvt. Ltd. argued against personal liability and jurisdiction, claiming they were merely facilitators and not responsible for the VISA rejection.

Despite their arguments, the commission found in favor of the complainants, highlighting that a part of the cause of action arose within Ernakulam jurisdiction.

The commission held that MakeMyTrip India Pvt. Ltd. was indeed liable for the rejection of the VISA application, citing deficiency of service on their part.

They ordered: 1. Full refund of the entire amount paid for the travel package and VISA processing charges. 2. Compensation of Rs. 50,000 for deficiency of service. 3. Awarded Rs. 5,000 as litigation cost.
