Defamation Suit Leads to Temporary Suspension of TheLiverDoc's Twitter Account

A Bengaluru Court temporarily suspended Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips' Twitter account, popularly known as TheLiverDoc, following a defamation suit filed by pharmaceutical and wellness company, Himalaya Wellness.

Himalaya Wellness took legal action against Dr. Philips, asserting that he posted derogatory statements and materials about their company on Twitter.

On September 23, Additional City Civil and Session Judge DP Kumaraswamy presided over the case. The Court ruled that an interim order was necessary prior to serving a formal notice to Dr. Philips.

Senior Advocate Uday Holla, representing Himalaya, argued that Dr. Philips' posts were designed to promote products of competitors Cipla and Alchem.

The Court granted a temporary injunction, restraining Dr. Philips from making further statements against Himalaya Wellness.

Additionally, they directed X Corp (formerly Twitter) to suspend Dr. Philips' Twitter account until the next hearing scheduled for January 1, 2024.
