The competition is being sponsored by Majumdar & Partners. Established in 1943, they have evolved into one of India’s premier law firms representing the who’s who of global companies, banks, and financial institutions. They specialize in inbound investments into India, corporate/M&A, competition, banking and finance, private equity and venture capital, tax, technology, media and telecommunications, employment, projects and energy, and disputes.

About the Competition

The Centre for Policy and Research in International Law (CPRIL), initially established in 2016, is a platform focusing on international laws. With its commitment to disseminating high-quality research, facilitating knowledge exchange, and addressing pressing global challenges, CPRIL is poised to make a significant impact in the field of international law.

Encouraging legal research and writing is one way of achieving the said goal, thus, the Centre is pleased to announce the 1st Edition of the NLUJ International Law Blog Writing Competition. The essay competition will be based on different themes reflecting the current issues.

    • Responsibility to Protect under International Law
    • Cyber Security and AI under International Law
  • Environment and International Law
    • India and International Environmental Law
    • Evolution of Common but Differential Responsibility Principles
    • Effectiveness of Anti-wild life trafficking treaties

Eligibility Criteria

Students/research scholars enrolled in any UG/PG/Ph.D. course from any university are eligible to participate in the competition.

Submission Guidelines

  • Original Content: All content submitted to the International Law Blog must be original and not previously published in any form, including personal blogs, other websites, or in print. Any submission containing more than 25% plagiarism (based on Turnitin assessment) will be liable to automatic rejection.
  • Authorship: Co-authorship by two authors is permitted, and the Editorial team may accept manuscripts with more than two authors in exceptional circumstances based on the merits of the submission.
  • Tone and Style: Content must be written in a professional, clear, and concise style and free of any derogatory or discriminatory language. The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject or expunge any article found to contain defamatory or discriminatory comments or factually incorrect information. The reason(s) for such an action shall be notified to the author(s) in a reasonable time frame.
  • Length: Content should be between 800-1,500 words, although longer pieces may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Flexibility will be based on the originality and merit of the content. The author(s) are encouraged to divide their manuscript into 2 parts in case they exceed the word limit by more than 250 words.

Formatting Guidelines

  • Please use British English.
  • The font should be Garamond size 12 for the main body and Garamond size 10 in case footnotes are being used.
  • To add emphasis, please italicize the text.

How to Submit?

  • The manuscript should be submitted in a Word document via email at [email protected].
  • At the time of submitting a piece, the author(s) are requested to provide 4-5 keywords suitable to the theme and content of their submitted piece.
  • Author(s) submitting a manuscript should identify themselves by their full name and provide a brief bio, including their credentials, relevant experience, and affiliations in the email.
  • Please refrain from mentioning personal details inside the manuscript.
  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to ask for follow-up information at its discretion to assist us in making publication decisions.

Submission Deadline

October 22, 2023


  • Publication: The submissions will be selected after rigorous peer reviews and further the top three submissions will be published by the NLUJ CPRIL blog. (Note- Other submissions may also be published subject to the discretion of the Editorial Board. The authors will be duly informed about the same.)
  • Cash Prizes: The top three prizes will be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 respectively.
  • Internships: Subject to slot availability, the top three authors might be given internships.
